The latest word has American Horror Story adding Lena Dunham to its cast of lead performers in season 7. Originally created and produced by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk for FX in 2011, the anthology horror series has quickly cemented itself as a mainstream success. Pulling from a stable of recurring actors and actresses across six self-contained miniseries orders thus far, consistent viewers of the hit program have made sure that the show will continue through seasons 8 and 9.
Season 7 of American Horror Story has recently been picking up a lot of steam as it continues to come together behind the scenes. As fans undoubtedly know by now, the new miniseries will focus on the 2016 presidential election with its first episode taking place on election night. Plenty of newcomers have already been added to the cast - most notably including such A-list talents as Billy Eichner, Alison Pill, and Billie Lourd - and the latest word has another iconic talent joining in on the fun.
Per an official Twitter post published to his personal account (see below), American Horror Story co-creator Ryan Murphy has revealed that Girls creator Lena Dunham has officially joined the cast for season 7. Coming off of her departure from the aforementioned HBO original program - which aired its series finale this past April - Dunham will be making her return to the small screen under the direction of Murphy and company.
Thrilled that my talented friend Lena Dunham is joining the AMERICAN HORROR STORY family. Always wanted to work together, and now we r!— Ryan Murphy (@MrRPMurphy) July 20, 2017
By no means a stranger to generating controversy, Dunham is perhaps one of the most fitting choices to star in the soon-to-be politically-fueled American Horror Story season 7. Never one to shy away from discussing who she thinks people should vote into public office, it will be exciting to see what role Murphy intends for Dunham fill.
Things are definitely starting to come together behind the scenes of American Horror Story season 7 in a big, bad way. Following the release of the concept art for one of the new monsters - in addition to a hinted return of Twisty, the killer clown who had his own frightening debut appearance in Freak Show - it will be exciting to see what tone Murphy and company decide to take with their election-themed horror show. And with frequent cultural commentator and social provocateur Dunham added into the mix, it’s probably safe to assume that things are about to get heated and contentious for longtime fans of the anthology series when the show finally returns.
